It’s Time That We All Doubt Our Doubts
As I peered from behind the curtain at my kitchen window, I watched as my husband taught our daughter to ride her bike without training wheels.
I am not sure who was more nervous, my daughter or me.
While I knew my daughter would succeed, she had doubts.
“What if I fall, you’ll catch me right, Daddy?” she questioned.
Smiling down at her, he held the bike up as she climbed on and reassured her he would be right by her side ready to catch her if she needed him.
My daughter didn’t doubt her dad; she doubted her ability to ride her bike without falling.
Doubt is a feeling of uncertainty; a lack of confidence in someone or something.
“If the Sun and Moon should ever doubt, they’d immediately go out.” ~ William Blake
We’ve all experienced it at some point in our lives. We doubt our knowledge, our ability, our instincts, and our dreams.
It can leave us paralyzed causing us to stop trusting the power we have within us to pedal towards success.
Sure the road will get bumpy at times, and we’ll wobble side to side fighting to keep our balance, but as long as we keep our focus on the task at hand, we move forward.
I know I have experienced the nagging echo of doubt this past year with my writing.
Am I good enough?
Do my words matter?
What if this writing gig doesn’t go anywhere?
Self-doubt is brutal.
But other things keep me balanced and better able to fight off the demon of doubt.

- And that man who promised to be there to catch our daughter if she fell, well, he has been my side during this journey doing the same for me.
He encourages me every day to doubt my doubts before I doubt my faith and ability.
Continue To Pedal Through The Doubt That Can Seem Overwhelming
And just like my daughter did so many years ago, I climb into my seat, put one foot in front of the other and continue down the road focusing on what lies ahead.
There will be distractions that try to take my eyes off the goal, and there may even be detours and adjustments I need to make along the way.
But as long I keep moving forward, I gain strength and confidence, riding past doubt as I regain balance in this crazy dream.
What about you, do you struggle with doubts in your journey? How do you push them aside and stay the course?
